Thoughts and Musings from City of Refuge Church

What if God was Mute?

What if God was mute? What if He didn’t communicate in an earthly language? What if we had no way of reaching Him and knew nothing about Him? If that were true, we would carry on with our lives, but we would eventually destroy everything.

Within our nature is destruction. We want our way or the highway. When we want something, we will kick, scream, bite, claw, and manipulate for it. Interestingly, if others didn’t point this out to us, we would be in denial of this reality. We are not just destructive but self-deceived.

While we need a “someone” to be truthful with us about our situation, who would point that out to that “someone” if they have the same nature? An individual that is outside of everyone else that is not deceived or destructive in nature must set us straight. Otherwise, we are all crooked and without hope.

God’s Word to us is just what we need and just how we need it. It is the best spoonful of medicine and sugar in the universe. God reveals by speaking to us that He is relational, desires to be known, created us for a purpose, and loves us. He also reveals that we are sick and in need of a transplant of the soul. He has the solution. Without His Word, we would know none of this and our world would be similar to the days of Noah before the flood when murder, malice, and mayhem were in the hearts all people.

At the COR, we respect God’s Word. We cherish God’s Word. We desire to live by God’s Word. We are learning more about the written Word of God this Sunday. Come along for the journey. Questions are welcome!
