Thoughts and Musings from City of Refuge Church

Time is Slipping, Carpe Diem

The clock is ticking. The days keep passing by rapidly. How is it already 2017? These are not thoughts of the youth. When we are young, we often struggle with wanting to get older faster. Then, one day we want to put on the brakes. But, it doesn’t work, does it?

We each have the same amount of time in a day. Yet, many of us do not think it is enough. How can we seize the day? If we can’t stop the seconds from turning, we have to make most of the moments that we have. There is no guarantee of tomorrow.

Jesus Christ lived before all that was created. Colossians 1:15-16 in the Bible speaks of Him and states “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”

In this verse, the term “firstborn” has nothing to do with being born but means rank. He is the highest of all and existed before creation. He is superior. He is outside of time. He created time. We were placed in time temporarily even though we were made for eternity. Christ entered time to identify with us by taking on human flesh, emotions, and weaknesses.

He chose beforehand how long an average lifetime would be. Our years, weeks, days, and even seconds are calculated. We only have so much time to prepare for eternity. All of us will exist forever but with Whom? Yes, whom not where. What we do now determines Whom we will be with forever when time runs out. That is the most important concern regarding spending our days wisely.

Christ entered this world to take on the death penalty we all deserve in order for us to be with Him forevermore. He used time wisely. Imagine. He created time so that He would eventually utilize every second of it to free us from the restriction of time and live in friendship with Him.

What will you do with your time this year? Ask Him to help you. He knows a little bit about preserving every moment. He desires to help guide us to make the most of the life that we have. We have to be proactive about not wasting our existence. We invite you to spend some of this year with us as we journey with Him.
