Remaining Faithful
One of my college roommates is a Marine. You’ve heard the motto and seen the bumper sticker Semper Fi (short for Semper Fidelis.) Always faithful. Although my college roommate is now a Navy Chaplain, he will always be a Marine. That’s the way it is, and you know that going into it.
Jesus Christ asks for the same loyalty. He taught us much and expects us to follow. He didn’t just say it; He lived it. He is the Way to eternal life, and He exemplified how to walk in this life. In a previous post, the scripture below was listed with several other verses:
You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. John 8:31
He might as well have said remain faithful to His habits. Anyone can talk the talk, but the rub is whether they walk the walk. Jesus Christ went way beyond the extra mile in walking the walk. His sacrifice is impossible to trump (will that word ever be the same again for good or bad!!!)
What exactly did Christ teach? How can we keep up with all of it? Since there is so much of His teaching, it is imperative first to observe how Christ lived. This can be split into two categories (Luke 10:27). He always put His Father God first. And, He served, cared for, and loved others to death. To continue in devotion to what he imparted can be distilled down to making Christ number one, others second, and then taking care of ourselves. Of course, this doesn’t mean we devalue ourselves, but it does mean that we cannot elevate ourselves above God or others. Even Christ didn’t do that!
People will know when someone truly walks with Christ when it is obvious that their life is centered on Him and when they seek to meet the needs of others. All His teachings can be summed up by those two prerogatives. Keep something in mind; you don’t have to always like God or like people in order to love them. Typically, when you begin to love it eventually leads to more liking.
You’re going to put someone as priority. Possibly yourself. But who do you want to be known for remaining faithful to the most? It will be your legacy.
One guy backed out. Judas. He had no love. He decided He didn’t like his Master and the rest is history. The other followers of Christ remained true to the end. Once you fully turn your life over to Him, it all boils down to keeping Him as top priority and doing what is best for those around you. Always faithful. That’s what you want to be known for. Christ was known for remaining true to His Father in heaven. He desires for us to be known for being faithful to Him. Join us in this legacy. How can we help you?
