Power and Form

It sounds like something a coach would command in weightlifting or track. “Power and form, gym rats, that’s what you need!” I was in track and weightlifting in high school and the coaches never talked like that, though. They said far worse!

But posture and physique are not the issues in this post. When you think of Jesus Christ what comes to mind? Most people don’t have a problem with the Man. They may not like church or religion, but Christ Himself was a great guy. In our culture, we celebrate His birth in the winter and His resurrection in the spring. We know that He was a miracle worker and an effective teacher. Yet, to those who experienced Him in person, especially His close followers, there is one word that described Him. Power.

So, for those that currently say they follow Him and have given their very soul to Him, where is the power? Have you ever known someone that you could honestly say the power of God was on them? We were not made for an ordinary life. Extraordinary power comes from God. We were created with the capacity to harness this power. No, not in a Gandalf wizardry way. It’s self-control. It’s love in the face of hate. It’s enduring dependency on the Divine. It is beyond what the natural world can offer. Do not focus on those that call themselves a Christian. Focus on the Christ that provides the power.

Spiritual formation is fueled by His influence. You can begin to ask Him today to form you. We do not start off manifesting the fruit of His power. But over time, we can be shaped. We can be molded. We can be established. Like a muscle that is weak, it can be strengthened with repetition. At first, it is sore to work out. The muscle tears down to build up stronger. Over time, we get used to the soreness and see the strengthening results.

We must allow Christ to form us. We are already being formed one way or another whether by our own vision or of the culture. Letting go of our agenda to embrace His Kingdom is where the power is at. How will you be shaped in 2017? Will you be described as someone with the power of Christ upon them? Will His love rule you and be evident to all? We are a community seeking for an extraordinary change in our lives that is noticeable by all. Will you join us?
