Thoughts and Musings from City of Refuge Church

One Degree Makes All the Difference

If a ship is traveling a long distance, it must stay on course the entire time. Otherwise, it can get off course by thousands of miles if it was one degree off from the beginning. Unless there is purposeful rerouting, any deviation from the original coordinates can be disastrous. The irony is that the ship can be thousands of miles off track and not even know because the scenery is so similar.

It’s amazing how being off one degree can have such devastating results over the long haul. Yet, this is a negative. Can one point differentiation be a positive? Absolutely.

I was speaking to a man that went for a checkup at the doctor. His blood work revealed that he was one point into the realm of diabetes. He stopped eating sugar, bread, and ice cream as well as neglecting sweet tea. He lost 20 pounds in 3 months just from the change in diet. His blood sugar and cholesterol changed drastically for the good. All of it was inspired by one point. That made all the difference.

These illustrations have a standard measurement in common. So what is the standard to measure the destination of your life? Are you off track? How far off? How do you know?

What would it take to reveal that you are already going down an unhealthy road, even just a little? Who would be qualified and credible enough to get your attention? How drastic are you willing to change to correct the path?

As the City of Refuge, we desire to stay on course for an abundant life. We know how easy it is to go down the wrong road and not realize it for many days. It is our desire to be accountable to each other by encouraging each other to live within a standard of health that is beneficial to ourselves and those in our community, including you. 2017 is a good year to set your coordinates right. We would enjoy going on the trek with you. Contact us if you are interested.
