Do you have a plan?

We often have a plan for many things in our life that we enjoy. Sometimes we plan for something we desperately need, but don’t necessarily enjoy. You’ve heard the statement failing to plan is planning to fail. Do you have a spiritual plan for 2017?

There are resolutions galore – how we eat, what we read, exercise, hobbies, working less, working more, and our media consumption. Analyzing all these things can be good. Yet, these are all temporary matters. Sometimes even the resolution becomes temporary, and we don’t follow through. At least, not past a few months. Still, setting markers and goals is not a bad thing.

How about setting a goal for 100 years from now? In other words, we often set goals for the short term. What about looking way ahead in the future and working backward to right now. We can then ask what we need to do in these moments to prepare for the long term. Where will you be in 100 years? What will you be doing? How do know for sure the answers to those questions?

How does having a spiritual plan for this year have anything to do with 100 years from now? Well, it is good that you asked! What you are doing now and who you are is an effect of the causes of yesteryear. Yes, there were things in our childhood that were out of our control that shaped us. Most likely, though, we are now who we are because of the choices we began to make on our own in our teen years. If you don’t like who you are or your current choices, look at last year and the year before and ten years before. You are a product of all your choices leading up to now.

Many of us are not living the life we wish to live because we are not intentional or forward thinking. It takes a little time to change that mentality especially for the laid back, stop and smell the roses personality. But it can be done with some work. Your choices now will affect where you are, whom you are with, and what you will be doing in 100 years. That includes your choices in 2017.

At the end of this year, it’d be good to look back and say that we made some good changes. It would be a relief to know that those changes will affect us for many years to come. You definitely don’t want to be unsure of what your existence will be like in 100 years. How about thinking about that this year? How about thinking about that now! If you are unsure of where to begin or you don’t know what life will be like in a century, let us know. We want to help. We would enjoy a conversation. Do you have a plan?
