Basketball and Life

There were three rules laid out for the players when I coached the basketball team for my 10-year-old son.

1. Listen to your coach

2. Hustle

3. Play as a team

We mainly worked on the fundamentals throughout the season. They learned to dribble, pass, and shoot properly. Whether a child has never played or has five years of experience, they have to go back to the basics to get better.

The three standards above are a must for someone to become a basketball player. Yet, anyone can play basketball by himself or herself where there is a goal or a literal basket to throw a round object into. The game was originally created for others to participate together while playing at full speed as an experienced individual who can see the whole picture guides them.

There are people walking the earth alone. They may have people all around them constantly, but they don’t participate with others for the betterment of society. They only play by their own rules. They do not give it their all but settle for the easy way also known as the road most taken. Some even believe there is no One beyond them to help guide them. They often act as if they don’t even need the assistance.

We were not made to live that way. In fact, that is not living it is only existing. Life was meant to be lived in a community with others, played out to the fullest, and guided by Someone with much more experience that can see everything on a different level. We must go back to these basics of life, or we will be far below our potential.

As the City of Refuge, we play as a team. We live life abundantly. We listen to our Coach. You are welcome to join us anytime. Want to know more?
