All Who Are Weary
Are you weary? We ALL will be at some point. Many who are reading this may be experiencing weariness now. Jesus Christ spoke these words:
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
He is saying, “cast your anxieties on me for I care for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Notice the 4th word “all” in the verse above. Many do not believe that God desires for them to be associated with Him. In the exhaustion of life, they feel alone and neglected. Jesus Christ came down from heaven just to speak this to us. He doesn’t discriminate from whom can come to Him. He invites ALL!!!
He desires to provide rest in the soul, in the mind, in life. A yoke was used on two animals to plow. He is using a metaphor to say that when unified with Him the plowing of life is easier. He is humble, not arrogant. He is gentle, not demanding and cruel. Imagine that the burden of living that He offers is so calm that it is freeing rather than burdensome.
For Jesus Christ to offer this replenishment is amazing. Pause for a moment. It is important to realize that He is NOT offering religion. He is not offering a 12-step program (although that can be helpful and wise in many situations). He is not offering rules and hoops to jump through to find help. He is simply offering Himself. It is a relationship with the Healer. Yet, this is only part of the offer. There is more!
Jesus Christ takes those that accept the offer and renews them to be His ambassadors. So, they, in turn, represent Him and extend to others an invitation to know Him. They introduce others to Him. They speak His words and live His way. Since He sought after people rather than sat far away in the corner of the universe waiting for us to find Him, we are to pursue others and display His love. We are to provide the opportunity to understand this easy yoke and gentle heavenly heart.
It is like the city is burning down. There is one source for water. Those that care the most are running to get rounds of water to disperse on the flames. They know where to find it, and they know sitting still and letting the professionals work isn’t going to cut it.
At the City of Refuge, we desire to offer the water of life to the weary. We aspire to be citizens that care for those hurting that feel as if their life is crumbling in the raging fire of pain and brokenness. Waiting for people to make appointments with the professionals isn’t going to cut it. Our life is dependent on that source of replenishment too. The initiative to share freely rather than expecting everyone to find help randomly is the objective. We SEEK Christ, and we SEEK the weary. How can we help you? What are your needs? Again, are you weary? Come find rest. Let us know what we can do.
